Artist Statement

My work is inspired by architecture, especially postmodern, contemporary, Victorian, International Style, and Mid-Century design. I’m interested in the shapes, structures, and different parts that make up buildings and spaces.

My process is collage-based. I usually start with an architectural space or detail that I’m drawn to, then break it apart into smaller pieces. I look at things like stairs, walls, windows, balconies, outlines, and the way different structures overlap. I think about the pieces almost like Tetris or a puzzle, moving them around until they start to work together.

I’m not trying to recreate an actual building. I use architecture as a starting point, then change the perspective, overlap different spaces, and create structures that feel familiar but don’t completely make sense. I use solid black shapes, negative space, texture, and pastel colors to balance the heavier architectural forms.

A lot of my work sits somewhere between architecture and abstraction. I want the viewer to recognize parts of a space, while still having to figure out how everything connects.
